Winter Activities

Riverside Point has limited availability during the winter months.

For the winter lovers that prefer to Cross Country Ski there are four popular areas to ski. 

  • Soaring Eagle - 7.2 K trail groomed for skate skiing and 12 K trail tracked for classical skiing. Located 8 miles north on Hwy 71
     

  • Itasca State Park - Gorgeous 32 mile area tracked for classical skiing.  Located 20 miles north on Hwy 71
     

  • Hiram X-X Ski Trail - Akeley area - Located 6 miles east of Akeley on County Road 12/6 8 kilometer classical trail
     

  • Shingobee Recreation Trail -   Challenging area located 4 miles east of Akeley on Highway 34 -  12 kilometer classical course.

Itasca State Park is open for snowshoeing and just taking a walk or looking for winter wildlife. Also, don't forget the Annual Ice Fishing Contest sponsored by the local American Legion Post.

When riding please remember to ride safely.

Laws for operating snowmobiles within the city limits of Park Rapids

  1. Must have a valid drivers license and/or a snowmobile safety certificate to operate a snowmobile.

  2. Speed limit is 15 miles per hour.

  3. Must ride single file on streets and alleys.

  4. Must come to a complete stop before crossing an uncontrolled intersection.

  5. Must cross streets at a 90 degree angle.

  6. Must yield right of way to oncoming traffic.

  7. May NOT ride on sidewalks.

  8. May NOT ride on Hwy. 34 or Hwy. 71.

  9. Must have lighted headlight and taillight when required for safety.

  10. May not ride on Main Street in the business district - may use alleys.

  11. Must use a solid hitch for towing other vehicles.

  12. May NOT operate a snowmobile while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
